Where was I? Ok.
After we’ve moved to the town. We would walk to school everyday when I was in primary four and five. And my past time after school is usually a nap after lunch, and do homework before going out to play in the evening. I would usually cycle around the neighbourhood in the evening. And sometimes we would fly kite and play with the neighbours. I wasn’t involved in any CCA during primary school. I tried to play basketball but didn’t really pick it up. We moved to further away from school when I was in primary six. Until now, my family had been staying there. I didn’t concentrate on my studies then. But I did alright, didn’t fail any test or exams. My Chinese is usually the weakest and have the lowest score. I cycle to school after we moved in primary six. That was only for half a year.
Then come secondary school. It’s further away from home and we would take the school bus to school everyday. And everyday after school, we would play Chinese chess while waiting for the bus. The wait is usually about an hour. So, a few of us would challenge one another everyday and sometimes continue the next day if we couldn’t finish the game. Because that we study at an independent school, there would be extra classes for students that have also taken up government subjects. Morning class would be independent school subjects and afternoon class for government subjects. Classes are usually until three or four and three days a week. And so, my brother and I would take the public transport home after school for those days. I think it was sec three that we started to cycle to school and then we are able to get home earlier.
I was in table tennis then. But we wouldn’t play at all cause of the many peoples and not enough tables to use. And we have also picked up Karate. There’s only like five people learning it. But anyway, we manage to get black belt and also take part in a competition. I still remember that time we travel so far for the competition. And in one of the sparing match, I hit an opponent on his nose and he bleed. That was unforgettable, seeing blood dripping from his nose.
I didn’t play basketball seriously until I was in sec four. A bit too late to make it into school team then. But we would motorbike to the public court and play basketball every evening. Oh, this is after we change to government school where schooling time is not till so late. And even before we change school, we ride to school everyday and we have no license yet. Lucky we have never been caught.
And on my studies, I would usually fail Chinese and History. Two lines of red colour between blue ones at the end of the year. Subject I was good at is Chemistry and Physics. Though I don’t study for exams, I scored quite alright for them. And like all students do, we went for tuitions. English, Malay, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and even on Moral education when nearing the SPM exam.
Sorry. Tell more of my story next time. Life in poly and how I came to Singapore.
Till then.
